Braves Blame Wider Q1 Loss In Part On Player Expenses

Braves parent company Liberty Media today reported that the team saw Q1 revenue fall and "losses increase" compared to the year-ago period. Revenue for Liberty Braves Group was $4M, down from $5M in Q1 '15, and the team lost $36M, compared to the previous Q1 loss of $21M. The team "blamed the wider loss on 'an increase in operating expenses driven by the acceleration of approximately $11 million in player salary expense as a result of released and injured players'" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 5/9).
