EA Sports To Announce "Madden" Cover Athlete With No Fan Vote

EA Sports today said it will not conduct a fan vote to select the cover athlete for the upcoming edition of its popular football title, “Madden NFL,” and instead will simply announce the choice on Thursday during the 6:00pm ET edition of “SportsCenter.” After debuting a fan vote in '10, EA Sports grew the program into a successful multiplatform entity with the aid of longtime partner ESPN, with the bracket expanding to 64 players in '12 and '13. But more recent iterations of the vote were considerably smaller, shrinking to 16 players in '14 and then four last year, yielding a choice of Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. “Madden NFL 17” will be released on Aug. 23.
