Tech Startup Quicklegal Wins NBA Kings' Entrepreneur Contest

The NBA Kings have named Quicklegal, makers of an app that allows consumers to receive on-demand legal advice, as the winner of team’s first innovator start-up contest. Quicklegal was awarded $10,000, business consultant sessions with Kings execs and lunch with Kings Managing Partner Vivek Ranadive. The contest, called Capitalize, drew more than 100 local entrepreneurs. It was run by the Kings and Velocity Venture Capital and marked the first of its kind in the NBA, with the winner chosen by fans during the team's “Tech Night” promotion on April 5. The franchise played its last game in Sleep Train Arena on Saturday.

Kings President Chris Granger said the team plans to continue the promotion next season at their new Golden 1 Center to open in the fall. “Now that we have done this once and have seen not just the number of applicants, but the buzz surrounding Quicklegal, we think we can make it bigger perhaps as early as next fall,” he said.
