MLB Distributes Record $69.88M In Postseason Player Compensation

MLB distributed $69.88M in postseason player compensation, up 13% from last year and a new league record. The money, generated from 50% of the gate receipts of the Wild Card games and 60% of the first three games of each LDS and first four games of each LCS and World Series, is largely a function of the ballpark capacities of the participating teams and ticket prices. This year's overall postseason compensation pool breaks the prior mark of $65.36M set three years ago.

The World Series champion Royals divided their $25.16M portion of the postseason pool into 58 full shares, 8.37 partial shares, and 50 cash awards. The Royals' full share value of $370,069.03 is down from the Giants' record full share of $388,605.95 last year. But the Royals divided a larger overall pool into more full shares and cash awards. Postseason distributions were again given to each of the 10 playoff teams.
