Boston 2024 Chair John Fish Backs Referendum On Olympic Bid

Boston 2024 Chair John Fish today said that the organizing group "wants to hold a statewide referendum" for its Olympic bid, and the idea was "quickly endorsed by Boston Mayor Martin Walsh." Fish told the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce that "even if the referendum passes statewide, Boston 2024 would not go forward if the group did not receive support from a majority of voters within the city." The group will "take the lead in gathering the signatures" to get the question on the ballot in November '16. Fish said that the USOC "endorsed the idea" (BOSTONGLOBE.com, 3/24).
