LPGA's Whan Says Three Suitors In Talks To Replace Kraft

LPGA Commissioner Mike Whan today said that there are "three potential successors to Kraft Nabisco as the title sponsor of the year's first major" and that "moving the championship away from Mission Hills isn't an option in negotiations." Whan said, "We are coming back. If I come back without a sponsor, I come back without a sponsor. We will fund this one." The price to title sponsor the tourney is roughly $5M, but rises to more than $6M "with the TV buys required." If the LPGA keeps ownership, "it will be the sixth event the tour owns" (GOLFCHANNEL.com, 4/3).
