Prominent Sports Architect Ben Barnert Dies Of Cancer At Age 59

Sports architect Ben Barnert died Sunday of cancer at his home in Breckenridge, Colo., at the age of 59. Barnert, a senior principal and partner at Populous, led design projects at Camden Yards, Petco Park, Citi Field, M&T Bank Stadium, Heinz Field and Bridgestone Arena, among other sports facilities. Barnert joined Populous in March '84 as its eighth employee when the firm was HOK Sport. A memorial service is scheduled for Aug. 24 in Overland Park, Kan.
