Mexico-Based NASCAR Series Hosting Its First U.S. Race In Phoenix

The Mexico-based NASCAR Toyota Series will make its U.S. debut Friday night with the season-opening Toyota 120 at Phoenix Int'l Raceway. The series has been sanctioned by NASCAR since '07 and holds 14-15 races a year, "mostly on eight different oval tracks in Mexico." MLB Giants P Sergio Romo will serve as the race's grand marshal (L.A. TIMES, 3/1).

Coinciding with World Baseball Classic exhibition games in Phoenix, World Baseball Classic Inc. will sponsor a car in the race: the No. 05 Ford driven by Abraham Calderon (MLB).
