TODAY’S ARTICLES OF INTEREST

The WASHINGTON POST’s Sally Jenkins writes that the new baseball stadium planned for DC is “already a drain” on the city and “ground hasn't been broken yet. The project grows more illogical by the day. You really think a publicly funded baseball stadium is going to be good for the municipality, after watching the quarreling of the last week? Allow me to voice a small but nagging suspicion: The mayor and the city council could be devoting such energy, attention and argument to better things than a ballpark” (WASHINGTON POST).

NEWSDAY’s Steve Zipay writes the NFL’s future plans for flexible scheduling on “Monday Night Football” games “might not be that advantageous.” There are not “enough quality national games to go around. ... [This season] two, or maybe three, swaps out of the final seven seem viable. Assume that a million extra homes would tune in for each ‘upgraded’ game. Add three extra points to the season's average rating. Calculated over 17 weeks, an 11.0 average rating would increase by mere tenths of points” (NEWSDAY).

  • In truth, Clippers Owner Donald Sterling is a genius.
  • The “partisan use” of video replays is one of the NFL’s worst-kept secrets.
