ARBITRATION PANEL RULES FOR JEFFREY LORIAIN EXPOS LAWSUIT

BLOOMBERG NEWS reports thatan arbitration panel today ruled against 14 former Expos co-owners who claimedthat Marlins Managing General Partner JeffreyLoria when he was Managing General Partner of the Expos “sabotaged effortsto build a new ballpark in Montreal, alienated sponsors and undermined effortsto keep the franchise in the city because he planned to move it from the outset.” The ruling, and the “expected termination ofthe federal case, means that the Expos can proceed with plans to move to Washington” (BLOOMBERG NEWS, 11/15).


NFL SENIOR VP/SPECIAL EVENTS JIM STEEGJOINING THE CHARGERS

Chargers President Dean Spanos will host a 4:30pm ET newsconference today to introduce NFL Senior VP/Special Events Jim Steeg as the team’s Exec VP & COO. Steeg announced earlier this year that hewould resign, effective after the ’05 Pro Bowl. Steeg previously worked in the Dolphins front office from ‘75-79 beforejoining the league. The Dolphins andLions also were reportedly interested in hiring Steeg (THE DAILY).


HARDEE’S USING NFLERS TO INTRODUCEMONSTER THICKBURGER

Hardee’s today began sellingthe Monster Thickburger, formerly the Monster Burger, at all of itslocations. Beginning tomorrow withVikings OL David Dixon and Chiefs OL Will Shields, an NFL player in ten select markets will work a localHardee’s drive thru for two hours, with the proceeds from every Monster Thickburgersold at that location on that day benefiting the player’s charity of choice (THE DAILY).


NASCAR ANNOUNCES PLANS TO CHANGE RACEWEEKEND SCHEDULE

NASCAR today announcedseveral changes to its race weekend schedule, including a post-qualifyingimpound procedure for the Nextel Cup Series. Following qualifying and post-qualifying inspections, the starting fieldof 43 cars will be impounded until race day. The new rule limits the amount of work teams can do on their cars, andeffectively ends “Happy Hour,” which consisted of two 45-minute practicesessions the day following qualifying. Also, on doubleheader weekends, Bud Pole qualifying could be followed bya Busch Series event (NASCAR).


REEBOK INKS ENGLISH POP STAR JAMELIA TOENDORSEMENT DEAL

The PRESS ASSOCIATION reportsthat Reebok has inked an endorsement deal with English pop star Jamelia to be the “new face” of thecompany across Europe. Under the $460,000+ deal, Jamelia will also serveas “a fashion consultant for Reebok.” Rappers 50 Cent and Jay-Z also have deals with Reebok (PRESS ASSOCIATION, 11/15).


U.S.SWIMMERS TO BE HONORED AT GOLDEN GOGGLES AWARDS

The inaugural Golden GogglesAwards will be held tonight at the Hammerstein Ballroom in N.Y. to bestow anumber of awards upon U.S.swimmers, including the male and female swimmer of the year.  Bob Costas will emcee the event (THE DAILY).

Nominees Amanda Beard, NatalieCoughlin, Larsen Jensen, Aaron Peirsol, Michael Phelps and KaitlinSandeno appeared on NBC’s “Today” this morning to promote theceremony.  Phelps, on whether the group has achieved its goal of makingswimming popular: “The team we have here definitely did an amazing job in Athens, and with theGolden Goggles tonight – and actually the first annual event we’ve had likethis – I think that indicates that this sport is moving up.  That’sdefinitely more attention than we’ve had in the past few years” (“Today,” NBC, 11/15).


BUZZER BEATERS

The Dodgers announced todaythat construction has begun on the renovation of Dodger Stadium’s dugouts,dugout seats and Dugout Club. The $15M renovation will move the dugouts closerto the field and add about 1,600 seats.  Also, an LED scoreboard will beinstalled (Dodgers).

The IOC today announced thatit has received the bid books for all five candidate cities – London,N.Y., Madrid,Moscow and Paris– for the 2012 Olympic Games (IOC).

General Motors todayannounced that its Pontiacand GMC divisions will return in ’05 as the official car and truck of the NHRA,respectively. The extension marks the 10thconsecutive season that Pontiachas served in that capacity and the 16th consecutive season for GMC(General Motors).

The Trail Blazers todayannounced a partnership with StubHub.com, which becomes the team’s officialonline ticket marketplace (Trail Blazers).

Warrior Lacrosse today signeda licensing agreement with Alleson Athletic to manufacture, distribute and selllacrosse practice and game uniforms (WarriorLacrosse).


TONIGHT’S EVENTS

The Cavaliers will distributeLeBron James bobbleheads to all fansin attendance for tonight’s Warriors-Cavaliers game at Gund Arena. The Cleveland PLAIN DEALER notes that there “waschaos the last time the Cavaliers gave out LeBron James bobblehead dolls. … Becauseonly the first 10,000 fans were going to receive the giveaway, lines startedforming hours before the game, and resulting in a rush-hour traffic jam” (ClevelandPLAIN DEALER, 11/15).

Charlie Sifford,Tom Kite, Isao Aoki and MarleneStewart Streit tonight will be inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame inSt. Augustine, Florida. Sifford will be the first African-American to be inducted into the Hallof Fame.
