FSU, Virginia strike licensing deals

Longtime client Florida State University has renewed its licensing arrangement with IMG College Licensing, while Virginia has signed a new licensing deal with Fermata Partners.

The Seminoles have been with IMG since 1982, when the business was known as Collegiate Licensing Co., making FSU one of the agency’s first school clients. CLC rebranded to IMG College Licensing earlier this year and it represents close to 200 college properties, including the NCAA and the College Football Playoff.

Andy Miller, president of Seminole Boosters, oversaw the renewal process for the school.

Virginia, meanwhile, opted for Fermata, the CAA Sports-owned shop that was started by four former CLC executives.

The Cavaliers went through a competitive review process before deciding on Fermata as its new licensing agent.

Fermata came onto the scene in college licensing in 2014 and has built a portfolio of blue-chip schools that includes Georgia, Kentucky, Miami, Notre Dame, Oregon and Wisconsin, to go along with Virginia.

Todd Goodale, the Cavaliers’ senior associate athletic director for external operations, ran point on the selection.
