WME’s LeBron James team hauls in Marlins’ Stanton for off-the-field work

The same team at WME that signed LeBron James two years ago has signed Miami Marlins right fielder Giancarlo Stanton for off-the-field work.

WME partners Brad Slater and Josh Pyatt, who signed James in 2014, will lead the team representing Stanton. Slater, co-head of the talent department, and Pyatt, who specializes in nonscripted projects, will work with WME partner and talent agent Andrew Dunlap to secure television, film and digital opportunities and endorsements for Stanton.

Stanton has appeared in Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s “Ballers” series on HBO. WME’s Brad Slater reps both.

DMA United had been working with Stanton on marketing deals recently, but no longer is.

Stanton continues to be managed by his longtime manager Santiago Rodriguez Jr. His playing contract agent, Joel Wolfe, Wasserman’s executive vice president of baseball, who negotiated his record 13-year, $325 million guaranteed deal with the Marlins in 2014, will continue to represent him on the field.

Wasserman will continue to manage endorsement agreements that Wasserman itself negotiated, including deals with Nike, Majestic, Rawlings, Six Star Nutrition and the MLB Home Run Derby video game. Stanton won the actual Home Run Derby at this year’s MLB All-Star Game.

Slater represents Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, star and producer of the HBO series “Ballers,” and Stanton already has appeared in an episode. WME is talking with producers about a show featuring Stanton’s offseason travels.
