Wentzell joins Spectra after 20 years at Delaware North

John Wentzell is back in arena management. Spectra has hired the veteran facility operator as president of its venue management and food service and hospitality group.

Wentzell
He will work out of Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, the firm’s corporate office. His first day on the job is Nov. 7.

Wentzell, 56, returns to Comcast Spectacor, parent company of Spectra, after spending about 20 years with Delaware North Cos. His run there included six years as president of Delaware North Boston, where he oversaw TD Garden, business operations for the Boston Bruins, and commercial development next to the arena.

During 1996-97, Wentzell served as chief operating officer of the Philadelphia Phantoms, the Philadelphia Flyers’ American Hockey League affiliate and a Comcast Spectacor property. He helped launch the Phantoms, who were sold in 2009 and remain a Flyers farm team in Allentown, Pa.

Wentzell was also a general manager with SMG when it was partly owned by a Comcast Spectacor affiliate.
Wentzell spent three years as president of Delaware North Sportservice before leaving the company in November 2015. He was not available for comment.

At Spectra, Wentzell is responsible for all aspects of facility management and food service, including finance, business development, marketing, corporate partnerships and operations.

Senior vice presidents Mike Scanlon, Doug Drewes, Shura Garnett and Charlie Neary report to Wentzell, whose boss is Dave Scott, Comcast Spectacor’s president and CEO.

Spectra has more than 300 accounts among its facility management, food service and ticketing groups. In recent weeks, the company has added arenas in Casper, Wyo., and Beaumont and Wichita Falls, Texas, to its portfolio.
