Under the leadership of Wood and Cunz in the sports group, Minnesota-based Mortenson has been on a roll over the past six months, winning NBA arena projects in Milwaukee and San Francisco, plus a new MLS stadium in the Twin Cities. The contractor is finishing up the $1.1 billion stadium for the hometown Vikings and is part of a consortium of four builders working on SunTrust Park, the Atlanta Braves’ new ballpark. In the college space, Mortenson is building Colorado State’s new football stadium plus smaller projects at Penn State, Minnesota and South Dakota. Expect Mortenson to be a top contender to build the Los Angeles Rams’ new stadium, which at a projected cost of $2.5 billion ranks as the most expensive sports development in North America.
