WNBA pumping up the palette for 20th season

The WNBA will celebrate its 20th season in style.

Other WNBA teams will join the Los Angeles Sparks in not wearing white at home.
The league will introduce new pastel uniform colors, designed by lead licensee Adidas in collaboration with the WNBA, and it will play with a 20th season edition basketball from Spalding. Meanwhile, Adidas will make 20th season sneakers and apparel.

The change of color palette means the league will no longer have any of its 12 teams playing in traditional home white uniforms. Uniforms for the Los Angeles Sparks and San Antonio Stars will remain the same, since both teams already have all-color uniform designs.

This year, WNBA jerseys will be crammed with branding. In addition to an advertising logo for Verizon on the jerseys of 10 teams and an Adidas logo on every jersey, there will be local ad patches across the chest and a 20th logo on the back neckline on each jersey.

The three original WNBA teams, the New York Liberty, Phoenix Mercury and Sparks, will wear special jersey patches during the 2016 season.

The jerseys will be available in April for $69.99. The commemorative Spalding game ball will also be at retail in April, priced at $139.99. Additionally, Adidas will make 150 pairs of black, orange and white 20th season sneakers and 20th season caps and T-shirts.

The 2016 WNBA season starts May 14.
