Smith was elected to a third three-year term to head the largest players union in sports after defeating eight challengers for his job earlier this year. The current collective-bargaining agreement doesn’t expire until 2021, but Smith still enjoyed a significant victory over the league when Tom Brady’s four-game suspension was overturned in court.
