USOC extends Blackmun’s contract through mid-2021

BLACKMUN
The U.S. Olympic Committee voted Sept. 25 to extend CEO Scott Blackmun’s contract through June 2021, giving the leader a robust vote of confidence just two months after the Boston bid for the 2024 Games collapsed. Blackmun’s contract was set to expire after the 2016 Rio Games. He also is eligible for a four-year extension that would allow him to preside over a potential Los Angeles Games should that bid succeed.

Blackmun escaped personal blame for the USOC’s decision to choose Boston as the U.S. nominee over Los Angeles. Aside from Boston, Blackmun’s tenure has been universally praised in the Olympic movement. He helped repair frayed relations with the International Olympic Committee and the Olympic sports’ national governing bodies.
