FanDuel signs Patrick to endorsement deal

Dan Patrick has signed an endorsement deal with FanDuel, which will see the pay fantasy site support all the broadcaster’s media outlets.

While FanDuel has spent the past 18 months amassing a bevy of sports sponsorships, including a deal with the NBA and half that league’s teams and 16 NFL club deals, Patrick is the company’s first big personality and spokesman. Competitor DraftKings was an advertiser on Patrick’s radio show, which included live reads, but this is a more comprehensive relationship.

“Dan’s a force across sport, and he’s a former fantasy junkie, so we’re reclaiming him,” said FanDuel CEO Nigel Eccles. “The difference between guys that play our games and those that just read ads is like 10 times. And his style and personality fits well with us.”

The FanDuel deal, which sources said is seven figures and for three years plus options, will see FanDuel sponsor Patrick’s daily radio show, its TV simulcast on NBCSN, along with his “Sports Jeopardy” show. Patrick is expected to do radio and TV ads for FanDuel, and the deal affords Patrick an opportunity to buy equity in the daily fantasy site.

Reed Bergman’s Playbook Inc. represents Patrick.

“I liked the fact they were willing to go cross-platform with me — that makes it a real partnership,” Patrick said.

Patrick describes himself as “having just recently emerged from fantasy rehab,” having been addicted enough at one point that he was making fantasy trades between takes of “SportsCenter.” His addiction had him participating in a variety of fantasy, including PGA Tour and NASCAR leagues.

“Now I see it as something that’s growing sports,” he said, “because you get all kinds of fans tuning in to all kinds of games.”

Other Patrick endorsers include Harman, Dodge Ram Trucks and Callaway Golf.
