Law enforcement tech firm names golf tournament

The newest title sponsor on the PGA Tour’s developmental series is a manufacturer of advanced police digital cameras and recorders.

Digital Ally, a Kansas City-based company that provides surveillance equipment, in-car video and body cameras to law enforcement, will be the title sponsor of the Web.com Tour’s event in the company’s hometown. The Digital Ally Open will be played Aug. 6-9 in Overland Park, a suburb of Kansas City.

Financial terms on the five-year deal were not released, but Web.com Tour title deals typically sell for the low seven figures, including advertising on Golf Channel. The title sponsorship is Digital Ally’s first venture into sports sponsorship.

“Digital Ally is a unique company that is based just a few miles from the tournament’s home,” said Bill Calfee, the Web.com Tour’s president. Calfee gave a nod to the tournament’s nonprofit local organizing committee, the Kansas City Crusaders, for their role in identifying Digital Ally as a prospect.

Digital Ally will use the tournament as a platform to show off its law enforcement technology and innovations, the company said.

It also has pegged four charities that will receive tournament proceeds — two groups that work with police and their families, a firefighter foundation and a children’s hospital.

Before Digital Ally came along, the tournament was known as the Midwest Classic.
