Replay Technologies adds cameras at Dodger Stadium, Yankee Stadium to expand 360-degree replays

Replay Technologies, the broadcast technology company based in Israel that has introduced advanced panoramic video replays, over the next several weeks will roll out expanded installations at Dodger Stadium and Yankee Stadium. The efforts are part of a large-scale expansion planned for the company this year.

The Yankee Stadium effort, set to debut next month, according to company executives, will involve an 18-camera system, double the number of cameras used last year in collaboration with the YES Network, and an upgrade to 5K video resolution. As a result, the 360-degree, almost 3-D replays that previously were focused around home

plate now will be available for the entire infield.

A similar “freeD” system is going through testing and refinement at Dodger Stadium and is scheduled to be used on the club’s SportsNet LA as soon as this week. The Dodgers’ owner, Guggenheim Baseball Management, earlier this year also became an investor in Replay Technologies, leading a $10 million Series B venture capital round designed to accelerate the company’s growth.

Replay Technologies is also tweaking its system at AT&T Stadium in Texas to focus more on the line of scrimmage in football as opposed to the red zones, and is making a push into European soccer. The company is in negotiations with several clubs there, notably French power Paris Saint-Germain.

While the company has been focused on enterprise-level solutions for professional broadcasters, Replay Technologies is also developing a consumer product in which fans could view the panoramic replays on demand. The video from client teams would be available on a second-screen application and viewable on tablets, laptops and smartphones. The company aims to release the consumer-level product in mid- to late 2015.

“This is shaping up to be a very exciting year for us,” said Oren Yogev, Replay Technologies chief executive and co-founder. “We have made a major focus on expanding our footprint of installations, and are working to bring this content directly to consumers where they can choose what they want to see, play around with it, and share it on social media.”

Replay Technologies was also used this year as part of the broadcast efforts at the NCAA men’s Final Four and national championship game, played at AT&T Stadium, and at the NBA All-Star Game in New Orleans.

“We love this technology,” said Tucker Kain, Dodgers chief financial officer. “We … are committed to working with them to put the best product forward.”

YES Network officials said there is not yet a signed agreement to bring back what it called “YES View” last year.
