Bridgestone signed a four-year extension of its title sponsorship of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational that will keep the event in Akron through 2018. Bridgestone’s previous agreement with the PGA Tour ran through next year. Bridgestone also extended its official marketing partner relationship with the PGA Tour through 2018.
City, church reach deal for stadium site
Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed announced that city officials reached a $19.5 million deal with Friendship Baptist Church, one of two churches key to the Atlanta Falcons’ new stadium site, according to an Atlanta Journal-Constitution report. Reed said that the church must ratify the deal with its congregation.
Arena drops bank name
1st Mariner Arena is officially dropping the reference to 1st Mariner Bank from its name and changing back to Baltimore Arena, according to a Baltimore Sun report. The facility was renamed 1st Mariner Arena in 2003, when former 1st Mariner CEO Ed Hale agreed to pay the city $75,000 a year for the naming rights. That agreement expired Jan. 1. The arena opened in 1962 as the Baltimore Civic Center.
The Baltimore Orioles launched the O’s Birds Nest, an interactive fan-engagement program. Fans can earn points and win prizes by supporting the club’s digital programs and platforms, and by interacting on the club’s official website at www.orioles.com and on the Orioles official Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.
New home for Canisius hockey
Canisius College will have a new rink for its men’s ice hockey program. The Golden Griffins, members of the Atlantic Hockey Association, will play out of the HarborCenter complex beginning in September 2014. The $172 million facility, being developed by the Buffalo Sabres next to First Niagara Center, will feature twin rinks and a high-performance training area.
Bears to extend with camp site
The Chicago Bears are close to extending an agreement with Olivet Nazarene University that will keep the team’s training camp at the Bourbonnais, Ill., school for several years, according to a Chicago Tribune report. This year marks the Bears’ 12th camp at Olivet.
Bears plan Miller Lite Loft
The Bears announced the addition of the Miller Lite Loft at Soldier Field, which adds three rows of seating, totaling 148 new fixed outdoor seats, and 90 standing-room positions. The new loft area, in the stadium’s south end zone, is scheduled for completion during the 2013 season and will replace the Miller Lite Party Deck.
Broncos’ new fields have heat
Fields Inc. completed the rebuild project of two natural grass practice fields at the Denver Broncos Conditioning Center in Dove Valley, Colo. The Broncos chose Fields to manage the project, including the installation of a hydronic heating system under both practice fields.

Rams to use Skyview systems
Nelligan Sports Marketing is partnering with Skyview Networks for satellite distribution of the Colorado State Rams radio network. The Rams will also use Skyview’s inventory management system to schedule, monitor and report on inventory.
Kansas Speedway and SFP reached a partnership for Kansas Speedway’s inaugural Grand-Am Road Racing weekend, the newly titled SFP Grand Prix scheduled for Aug. 16-17. SFP helps farmers maximize fertilizer efficiency. SFP also sponsors the SFP 250 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Kansas Speedway, a partnership that began in 2012.

The Churchill Downs board of directors approved the Grandstand Terrace project, to be completed in time for the 140th Kentucky Oaks and the Kentucky Derby in May. The new area — nearly 2,400 new seats on the second and third floors — is part of a $14.5 million renovation that includes 51,000 square feet of new space behind and adjacent to the track’s current grandstand seats.
Bushnell renews with Solheim Cup
Bushnell Outdoor Products reached an agreement with the Ladies European Tour to return as the official supplier of laser rangefinders to the European Solheim Cup team for the 2013 event. Bushnell will provide laser rangefinders and binoculars to the European team, caddies and referees at this week’s event at the Colorado Golf Club.
Flyers partner with sSnapp!
The Philadelphia Flyers formed a partnership with Social Media Gateways to use sSnapp!, the Las Vegas company’s social media commerce product. The sSnapp! platform integrates all major social networking and pushes out social promotions and viral campaigns. The Flyers used the technology to provide fans at the team’s draft party with a certificate code they could instantly redeem for a discount.
Kings donating portion of ticket sales
The Sacramento Kings are launching a “SacramenTENs Assist” program to donate 10 percent of season-ticket sales through October to 10 Sacramento charities, according to a Sacramento Bee report. The team also is creating a SacramenTENs program for businesses buying season-ticket packages.

HCL takes Nikon’s place on shorts
Turkish Super Lig club Galatasaray reached a $1.5 million sponsorship deal with Indian technology company HCL’s ME Tablet brand, according to a Soccerex report. The agreement follows the conclusion of Galatasaray’s deal with Nikon, and ME Tablet will appear on the team’s shorts for the duration of the 2013-14 season.
Famed Luzhniki nears renovation
This month’s World Athletics Championships will be the last major event staged at the Luzhniki Stadium before it shuts down for several years to undergo a complete renovation for soccer’s 2018 World Cup, according to an AFP report. The stadium was the centerpiece of the 1980 Moscow Olympics.
1860 Munich extends with brewer
Second Bundesliga club 1860 Munich extended its sponsorship deal with brewery Hacker-Pschorr, according to an Abendzeitung München report. The company will continue to be one of the club’s premium partners and receive exclusive marketing opportunities.
Jersey choice put to Roma fans
Serie A side AS Roma is giving season-ticket holders the opportunity to vote for their choice of third jersey for the 2013-14 campaign, according to a Football Italia report. The winning design — chosen from three options — will be worn by the club during the second half of the season.
Verivox gets shirt, stadium presence
Second Bundesliga club SV Sandhausen signed a new shirt sponsorship deal with Verivox, a comparison portal for energy, telecom, insurance and finance. Verivox also receives advertising space at Hardtwald stadium. The deal was brokered by Infront Sports & Media.
Sydney FC signs Webjet deal
A-League club Sydney FC signed a two-year commercial partnership with Australia and New Zealand’s largest online travel agency, Webjet.The agency becomes the team’s front-of-shirt and sleeve sponsor.
