Tiger Stadium nearing 100,000

Workers at LSU’s Tiger Stadium are laying the foundations for what will be added seating in the southeast and southwest corners, according to a Baton Rouge Advocate report. The project will bring Tiger Stadium’s capacity to about 100,000.

BUFFALO
UB partners with 1270 The Fan

The University at Buffalo has a new radio home for Bulls sports programming, partnering with Sport Radio 1270 The Fan to broadcast football and men’s basketball games. UB football coach Jeff Quinn and men’s basketball coach Bobby Hurley will have weekly shows hosted on the station.

COLUMBIA, S.C.
Gamecocks stay on WNKT

IMG College and Cumulus Broadcasting reached an agreement on a four-year contract that will keep WNKT-FM as the official flagship station of University of South Carolina athletics. The new contract runs through the 2016-17 school year.

HARTFORD, CONN.

Rangers’ AHL team renamed
The American Hockey League team playing at the XL Center will be renamed the Hartford Wolf Pack in time for the start of the 2013-14 season. The Wolf Pack, which originally played in Hartford from 1997 until 2010, was renamed the Connecticut Whale for three seasons. The Wolf Pack remain the New York Rangers’ AHL affiliate.

HONOLULU
UH regents OK Manoa debt relief

The University of Hawaii Board of Regents approved plans to retire the UH at Manoa athletic department’s $13 million accumulated debt, according to a Honolulu Star-Advertiser report. The department will now be allowed to award scholarships to out-of-state athletes based on in-state rates.

Big Leagues, Little Bricks on display

An original exhibition — Big Leagues, Little Bricks — runs through Sept. 2 at Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory. It features sculptures, portraits, and stadium replicas all built with Lego bricks. The exhibition showcases artist Sean Kenney, one of only 13 Lego Certified Professionals in the world. The creations include portraits of athletes, sculptures of iconic baseball moments and replicas of Wrigley Field and Miller Park. The Miller Park model — with a working retractable roof — was built by Tim Kaebisch when he was a graduate student at the Milwaukee School of Engineering.

Churchill Downs extends its credit
Churchill Downs amended its revolving credit line, extending its available credit from $375 million to $500 million. The amendment also includes an “accordion” feature that will allow CDI to increase secured credit by an additional $225 million under certain circumstances.

MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL
Twins, Brewers wearing 1948 threads

The Minnesota Twins’ “Turn Back the Clock” game is Thursday against the Milwaukee Brewers. The Twins will wear throwback uniforms of the 1948 St. Paul Saints, while the Brewers will play as the 1948 Milwaukee Brewers. The first 20,000 fans through the gates will receive a St. Paul Saints pennant.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.
Legends will sell Pelicans naming rights

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans retained Legends Sales and Marketing to sell the naming rights to Pelicans Ballpark. In addition to the ballpark’s naming rights, Legends will also develop and identify new sponsorship opportunities and partners for the Class A affiliate of the Texas Rangers.

PHILADELPHIA
UCI teams competing at Classic

The inaugural Parx Casino Philly Cycling Classic on Sunday will feature 25 men’s and 20 women’s teams. The men’s side will include four UCI Pro Continental Teams and nine UCI Continental Teams, while the women’s peloton includes five UCI Women’s Pro teams.

MLS team license plates ready
Philadelphia Union state-registered Pennsylvania license plates became available for purchase this month. The specialty plates cost $50 each. Proceeds from sales of the plates will benefit the Philadelphia Union Foundation. The plates have the standard Pennsylvania backdrop of blue, yellow and white along with the Philadelphia Union logo.

SACRAMENTO
City not concerned over arena challenge

The new Sacramento Kings ownership played down the possibility of a potential ballot measure derailing the plan for a new arena, though the process of getting that new arena is just starting. The city of Sacramento’s cursory review of a petition for a ballot measure gave no indication there was cause for concern, a spokesman for the new owners said. The goal is to open a new arena in 2016.

SEATTLE

Seahawks, Sounders plates planned

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee signed a bill clearing the way for Seattle Seahawks and Sounders FC license plates. Both plates feature the individual team logos. The plates will be available in January. Net proceeds from Seahawks plate sales will go to
InvestED, a Seattle-based nonprofit, and the bulk of the proceeds from Sounders FC plate sales will benefit Washington State Mentors.

Storm partners with Girls on the Run
The Seattle Storm Foundation is partnering with Girls on the Run of Puget Sound, a nonprofit that offers after-school programs to girls in third through fifth grade. Through the foundation, Girls on the Run will have the resources and marketing exposure to expand to 21 more schools and benefit 300 additional girls during the 2013-14 school year.

Army signs Tommy Moloney’s

The Army Black Knights secured Tommy Moloney’s as their newest corporate partner. The three-year marketing and sponsorship agreement with the food products company kicks off July 1. Tommy Moloney vice president Earle Mulrane is a 1980 West Point graduate and former starting quarterback.

BARCELONA
Barca plans $2.5M in upgrades
La Liga Champion FC Barcelona is planning nearly $2.5 million in upgrades to its facilities during the offseason, according to an El Periodico report. The club will install a heating system at Camp Nou stadium and will change the court at Palau Blaugrana, home of FC Barcelona’s basketball and handball teams. The club will also invest $1.5 million in upgrades at their training facility.

Team gets injury compensation
Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt received $649,200 in compensation from the German Football Federation (DFB) for goaltender Kevin Trapp, who broke his hand at a commercial shoot for DFB partner Mercedes in March, according to a Kicker report.

HAMBURG, GERMANY
Team re-taps with brewery
Bundesliga club Hamburg SV extended its exclusive partnership with Holsten brewery for an additional three years. Holsten will continue to have the exclusive distribution rights for the Imtech Arena as well as logo presence on media backboards.

LONDON
FC Fulham to wear Adidas
Premier League club FC Fulham signed a long-term agreement to have Adidas AG supply the club’s uniforms and apparel, according to a Bloomberg report. The west London team did not disclose details of the deal.

PARIS
PSG, Emirates extend kit deal
Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain and Emirates airline extended their shirt sponsorship deal by an additional five years, according to a Reuters report. Neither PSG nor Emirates were prepared to reveal the official value. Emirates will be the only sponsor to appear on the PSG shirt next season.

DHL naming rugby series
The Australian Rugby Union selected DHL as the naming-rights partner for the British & Irish Lions Tour to Australia. The series begins June 5 at Patersons Stadium in Perth.
