Coming up Roses: Derby rating second highest since 1992

NBC posted a 9.7 rating and 16.2 million viewers for the race portion of its coverage of this year’s Kentucky Derby, marking the best numbers for the event since 2010. The rating was also the second-best figure since 1992, and the viewership was the second-best since 1989. The marks for this year’s race, run May 4, were also up 8 percent and 9 percent, respectively, from a 9.0 rating and 14.8 million viewers last year.

The race portion of the coverage represents the period from 6:06 p.m. to 6:53 p.m. ET.

Louisville, Ky., home of Churchill Downs, scored the top local rating.
