Grand Prix organizers face $600K tax lien

BALTIMORE
Race organizers face $600K tax lien

Organizers of the Baltimore Grand Prix have been hit with a nearly $600,000 state tax lien, the latest in a string of financial woes for the group. The lien for $567,594 against Baltimore Racing Development includes $466,823 in admission and amusement taxes, $21,147 in sale and use taxes, $30,826 in interest and $48,797 in penalties.

BOISE, IDAHO
A season ticket for $49

The Idaho Stampede opened the Ford Fan Zone, a special seating section for NBA D-League games at CenturyLink Arena. Two hundred season tickets in the section are priced at $49, or just over $2 a game. The Stampede began their season last week.

BUFFALO
First Niagara offers student ticket deal

The Buffalo Sabres and First Niagara have partnered to offer students the chance to buy tickets to select Sabres games for $20, half off the regular price in First Niagara Center’s 300 level. At least 200 tickets to five Sabres games this season will be available as part of the Student Surge promotion.

CHARLOTTE
Lacrosse team sets world record

The MLL Charlotte Hounds on Nov. 19 broke the Guinness world record for longest men’s lacrosse game by 1 hour and six minutes. The game at Memorial Stadium took 13 hours and 14 minutes and ended in a 140-140 tie. More than $25,000 in merchandise and season tickets, including a sellout of premium seating for its inaugural season, were sold during the event, which also raised $8,246 for the Hounds Foundation.

CHICAGO

Adidas aligns with McDonald’s event
Adidas will be the official footwear, uniform and apparel provider for the McDonald’s All American High School Basketball Games at the United Center in Chicago on March 28. The annual event showcases 24 boys and 24 girls from a pool of more than 1,500 nominees nationwide.

COLUMBUS
Jackets renew with Lexus

The Columbus Blue Jackets renewed their corporate partnership with Lexus, a team partner since the 2008-09 season. Elements include in-arena signage and having a Lexus brand vehicle on display on the main concourse of Nationwide Arena for select home games.

INDIANAPOLIS
Conference launches live mobile app

The Horizon League, in partnership with WebStream Productions, launched Horizon League Network Live, the conference’s newest mobile application. The $1.99 app can be downloaded to any iOS smartphone or tablet, with Android availability coming soon. The app allows fans to watch any game carried live on the Horizon League Network along with on-demand features and highlights during the 2011-12 athletic season.

LOS ANGELES
Triathlon gets Herbalife name

Herbalife and Pacific Sports, producer of the annual Los Angeles Triathlon, formed a five-year agreement naming Herbalife as title sponsor of the event. The 13th annual triathlon, now known as the Herbalife Triathlon Los Angeles, will be held Sept. 30, with registration opening Dec. 5.

MILWAUKEE
Pettit Center partners with OAW

The Pettit National Ice Center has a new partnership with Orthopaedic Associates of Wisconsin. As part of the multiyear agreement, the orthopaedics group will be recognized as the official sports medicine provider for the Pettit Center, a U.S. Olympic training facility. OAW also will receive interior and exterior signage at the facility.

NASHVILLE
Sports group to pay Preds owners $7.8M

Nashville’s Metro Sports Authority will pay an estimated $7.8 million this year to the Nashville Predators ownership group and its management company to operate Bridgestone Arena, according to a report in The (Nashville) Tennessean. Metro has the opportunity to discontinue the $7.8 million subsidy by giving notice by Dec. 31, but there are no indications that will happen, according to the report.

Turkey bowling raises hunger awareness
ShopRite held its third annual ShopRite Partners in Caring Turkey Bowling Invitational with the Harlem Globetrotters, Philabundance and the Food Bank of South Jersey. Team Philadelphia and Team South Jersey bowled replica frozen turkeys to raise food donations and compete for the event’s 2011 trophy. Plastic replica turkeys were thrown at targets made up of paper towel rolls.

Runners receive 76ers tickets
The Philadelphia 76ers gave all participants in the Philadelphia Marathon a complimentary ticket to an upcoming Sixers home game. More than 27,000 people registered to participate in one of the marathon event’s three races: an 8K, a half-marathon and a full marathon. The Sixers were one of the event’s sponsors, and Joshua Harris, leader of the Sixers’ new ownership group, completed the full marathon.

SAN ANTONIO
Rampage auctions game-worn jerseys

The AHL San Antonio Rampage wore themed jerseys for Face-Off Against Kids Cancer Night that raised $26,000 in a postgame auction to benefit the program. Team captain Nolan Yonkman’s jersey went to the highest bidder, at $2,500.

Monumental launches corporate website

Monumental Sports & Entertainment launched MonumentalSports.com, its official corporate website. The site features content related to the organization’s brands and properties, including the Washington Capitals, Washington Wizards, Washington Mystics, Verizon Center, Kettler Capitals Iceplex and Patriot Center.

YORK, PA.
Revs expand deal with WellSpan

WellSpan Health, the official health care provider of the York Revolution, strengthened its relationship with the independent Atlantic League club through an expanded five-year partnership. WellSpan will now provide all primary care, training, orthopaedic, inpatient, and outpatient rehabilitation and nutrition counseling to players.
