Fox Sports Interactive Media has signed a multiyear syndication deal with sports satire hub Tauntr.com, expanding its range of content offerings.
FoxSports.com will regularly link to Tauntr.com content and will act as the exclusive sales agent for the 18-month-old site. Financial terms were not disclosed, but the pact involves a customary revenue-sharing component.
Tauntr.com, created by a group of Boston advertising executives, features a mix of original editorial, video and audio content, along with photographs and animations, all under the slogan of “Adding Insult to Everything.” Similar in tone to The Onion, examples of Tauntr.com content include fake newspaper headlines and Facebook posts, and custom-made videos lampooning pro athletes and teams.
Beyond the sports satire, fan trash-talking is a big component of the site. Tauntr.com content is primarily free, and the site operates on a business model built mainly upon advertising, merchandising with a custom-printing operation, and events and promotions.
“They have such a unique take on content creation in this space,” said Pete Vlastelica, Fox Sports Interactive Media senior vice president and general manager of the company’s Yardbarker blog network. “There isn’t really anybody else out there doing quite what they do, so we definitely see this going beyond the average affiliate deal.”
Tauntr.com typically generates between 500,000 and 1 million unique visitors a month.
