Event Notes: Vuelta a España Organizers Unveil Course For '18 Race

Vuelta a España organizers are hoping the '18 race will be "decided in the mountains" as they unveiled the course for the next edition on Saturday. The three-week race, which will start in Málaga on Aug. 25, will feature nine summit finishes and less than 40km of time trialing. Race Dir Javier Guillén said, "We want the mountains to be key again to decide the Vuelta" (REUTERS, 1/13).

Dakar Rally organizers canceled the ninth stage of the racing event, in which competitors were to have covered a route from Tupiza, Bolivia, to Salta, Argentina, on Monday. The official reason given Sunday for the cancelation "is the inclement weather that has affected southern Bolivia in recent days, including heavy rains" (EFE, 1/14).
