Finance Notes: Non-League Side Wembley In Trademark Dispute With FA

Non-league side Wembley Chair Brian Gumm said that the club "may be bankrupted because of a trademark dispute" with the FA over the club's logo. Gumm claimed he is being "railroaded" after the European Union's Intellectual Property Office ruled in the FA's favor. English football's governing body complained that Wembley's badge "may be confused with Wembley Stadium" (BBC, 12/21).

Welsh club Merthyr Town is "fighting to survive" after it revealed it is £90,000 ($120,400) in debt. It announced the debt included a £30,000 ($40,100) overdraft. Board member Jonathan Davies said that donations had raised £25,000 ($33,400) to cover an outstanding tax bill, but the club was still taking it "day by day" (BBC, 12/23).
