Peru national football team captain PAOLO GUERRERO was handed a 12-month ban "after testing positive for cocaine," meaning he will miss the 2018 World Cup. The 33-year-old striker, who plays for Brasileiro side Flamengo, had been provisionally suspended by FIFA after the drug, classified as a stimulant, "was found in his system." He was banned for one year on Friday after failing an anti-doping test (REUTERS, 12/8). ... New Zealand's GRACE VAOFUSI will play college basketball for the University of Northern Colorado in '18. The Bears "already boast" New Zealanders KRYSTAL LEGER WALKER and TIRANA CLARKE (Basketball New Zealand). ... SONNY BILL WILLIAMS will "stay in rugby union," according to his friend ANTHONY MUNDINE, who said, "I feel he'll stay in rugby. As great as rugby league is, rugby is the world game. Lots of countries play it all over Europe and South Africa, it's massive" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 12/11). ... Former Pakistan cricketer NASIR JAMSHED was banned for one year for "failing to cooperate with an investigation into spot-fixing." The 28-year-old, who represented his country 68 times across all formats, was charged in April in relation to spot-fixing at last year's Pakistan Super League (London TELEGRAPH, 12/11).
