Event Notes: EPL Moves Tottenham-West Ham Match To Jan. 4

Tottenham's New Year's Eve fixture against West Ham United has been moved to Jan. 4 "due to safety concerns," the Premier League said on Monday. The league made the decision after the Safety Advisory Group at Wembley Stadium "could only recommend a maximum crowd of 43,000 for the initial date, which was less than half the capacity." The main reason for the decision was "transport issues, mainly at local tube stations" (London TELEGRAPH, 12/4).

The Sri Lanka cricket team's decision to temporarily halt a test match in Delhi because of pollution "was right," a medical expert said. India's capital has had "toxic air quality levels for weeks." Max Smart Super Specialty Hospital chief pulmonologist Prashant Saxena said, "No one can play any games outside in this environment." Many on social media "mocked the team for stopping the match," and its decision "caused a lot of anger in India" (BBC, 12/4).
