Facility Notes: Sheffield Ski Village To Be Turned Into Extreme Sports Destination

Sheffield City Council appointed the Extreme Destinations-led consortium to deliver a 48-acre, sustainable Extreme branded sports, leisure and entertainment solution at Parkwood. An initial 100 new full-time jobs are "expected to be created" from the £22.5M ($30.2M) development. The agreement between Sheffield City Council and Extreme Destinations, in partnership with U.K. facilities operator Continuum Attractions, will see the development, provision and operation of a sports and leisure "experience" complex (BDAILY, 11/29).

British Basketball League side Newcastle Eagles began construction of a new 2,800-capacity purpose-built community sports stadium in the city's Elswick district. Newcastle, which played at Newcastle Arena and the university's Sports Central, has never had its own facility. It is hoped having its own venue can "finally bring European basketball competition to the north east" (BBC, 11/29).
