Lack Of Flood Insurance May Force Northern Irish Club From Home Ground

Difficulties getting insurance after "devastating" floods earlier this year "may force a County Londonderry football club from its home ground," according to the BBC. Riverside Stadium in Drumahoe, the home of Northern Ireland Championship club Institute, was "severely damaged by flooding in August." Club Chair Bill Anderson said that Institute has been informed it would be "very difficult to get flood insurance" for the ground. The pitch sits on the banks of the River Faughan. Anderson: "It doesn't look like we are going to get flood insurance. That would mean that if we invest a lot of money back into the ground and something like that happened again, we would be in a very, very difficult position. The future of the club would be at stake." The stadium, which has a capacity of 3,000, underwent a £1M upgrade in '10. The club leases the ground from Londonderry YMCA and is 10 years into a 25-year lease (BBC, 11/28).
