Olympic Notes: Eurosport Launches Campaign For Its Coverage Of PyeongChang 2018 Games

Eurosport launched its "Make It Yours" campaign for its coverage of the PyeongChang 2018 Games. The campaign shows how Eurosport will make every minute available as part of the first fully digital Games for Europe through live and on-demand coverage across all screens and devices. Eurosport's anthem for its Olympic coverage will be Queen's "I Want It All" (Eurosport).

Russia will "take steps to defend the interests of its athletes who were disqualified and stripped of their medals" from the 2014 Winter Olympics for doping, the Kremlin said. The IOC this month "annulled the results of 14 Russian athletes who competed in Sochi because of doping violations." Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said, "The main thing is to persistently and energetically take all possible measures to protect our legitimate interests and the legitimate interests of our athletes together with international sports organizations. One can hardly steal a victory that has already been won" (REUTERS, 11/27).

The Olympic Council of Ireland announced 12 athletes have been awarded Olympic Solidarity Scholarships to assist with qualification and preparations for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. The men’s hockey team was also awarded a scholarship to assist in its qualification efforts. Each of the scholarship recipients will receive approximately €523 ($622) per month until the 2020 Olympics. Athletes will receive additional funding up to a maximum of €4,180 ($4,980) to assist with travel costs (RTÉ, 11/27).
