BeIN Group President Al-Khelaïfi's Lawyers Deny He Bribed FIFA Secretary General

BeIN Group and Paris St. Germain President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi's lawyers said that he "did not offer" a Cartier watch to former FIFA Secretary General Jérôme Valcke, according to Laurent Perrin of LE PARISIEN. Al-Khelaïfi is currently being investigated by Swiss authorities for corruption tied to receiving "undue advantages" from Valcke for the TV rights for the 2026 and 2030 World Cup. The authorities suspect Al-Khelaïfi of offering Valcke a watch estimated to be valued between €10,000 and €20,000 ($11,644-$23,288) in '15, after the rights were awarded. Al-Khelaïfi's lawyers said that the gift was offered at the start of the tender process, a "traditional practice of Gulf nations" when meeting a foreign dignitary (LE PARISIEN, 11/9).
