Franchise Notes: ManU, Man City Face Pressure To Pay Employees Living Wage

ManU and Man City were on Tuesday facing political pressure from Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham "to ensure all those who work for them" are paid the "real" living wage. Less than a week after Liverpool agreed to become "only the third Premier League side to ensure everyone who carried out work on their behalf would receive the independently calculated living wage," ManU and Man City "were set to be the next teams targeted" amid a campaign against the use of cheaper labor within British sport (London TELEGRAPH, 11/7).

Watford Ladies
players and staff have been left lamenting "false promises" over the future of the club after it announced it "will not be seeking to join the new full-time Women's Super League" lineup next season. The Lady Hornets "will instead apply to play in the existing FA Women's Premier League" -- the third tier of women's football -- and although promotion "will be a possibility, the decision will essentially mark an immediate relegation." Staff and players "were operating under the impression Watford would at least apply" for a full-time WSL license until as recently as a week ago (WATFORD OBSERVER, 11/8).

The Mercedes Formula 1 team will use the final two grands prix of '17 to trial "new and interesting" concepts for next season. This weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix and the season-closing Abu Dhabi event from Nov. 24-26 give Mercedes "the first two test opportunities ahead of the new season" (MOTORSPORT, 11/8).
