The German FA (DFB) announced Hellmut Krug "will no longer act as VAR project manager and cease his supervisory role at the league's Control Centre in Cologne," according to DEUTSCHE WELLE. The decision comes as a result of a DFB meeting on Monday which involved, among others, DFB President Reinhard Grindel, VP Ronny Zimmermann and Head of Referees Lutz Michael Fröhlich, who will assume Krug's role in the interim. The DFB is allegedly reacting to a report in German newspaper Bild, which accused Krug, who will also cease working as a supervisor in the German Football League's (DFL) Control Center in Cologne with immediate effect, of "influencing the decision of the VAR in a manner not befitting his role." Krug denied the claims. He said, "As a supervisor, we are not authorized to influence or overrule the decisions of video assistants." Marco Fritz, the acting VAR for the match in question, Schalke's 1-1 draw with Wolfsburg on Oct. 28, "came out in support of his boss." He said, "In all situations that are checked at the review center in Cologne, the decision to intervene is made by the video assistant. That was the case for Schalke against Wolfsburg" (DW, 11/6).
