FIFA, Confederations Considering Expanding UEFA Nations League

FIFA confirmed it is "considering ways to expand UEFA's new Nations League tournament on a global scale with ongoing talks involving a number of regional confederations considering radical proposals," according to Simon Evans of REUTERS. UEFA's Nations League starts next September and features four divisions of national teams, "replacing friendlies with competitive fixtures." With UEFA's competition set to fill the int'l dates left for friendly games, "teams in other confederations will find it difficult to get windows for games against European nations." Responding to reports that UEFA was talking with other confederations, the global governing body said that it was "directly involved in the discussions," adding, "FIFA has been always involved from the beginning in the process" (REUTERS, 11/4).

FRIENDLY REMINDER: REUTERS reported the All India Football Federation has been reminded by FIFA that it "cannot be influenced by legal or political inference from inside the country." The warning came after a Delhi High Court ruling on Tuesday annulled the AIFF's most recent presidential election and ordered a re-run to be organized by Indian former Chief Election Commissioner S.Y. Quraishi (REUTERS, 11/4).
