Fernando Alonso Signs Contract To Remain At McLaren Formula 1 In '18

Fernando Alonso will continue to drive for McLaren Formula 1 in '18, according to Andrew Benson of the BBC. The two-time world champion believes McLaren's new engine deal with Renault will "return the team to competitiveness next year after three difficult seasons with Honda." Alonso spent some time "exploring his options both inside and outside F1" but said that he "feels at home" at McLaren. He added, "It was always where my heart was telling me to stay" (BBC, 10/19). Alonso will contest the '18 F1 world championship alongside Belgian Stoffel Vandoorne. McLaren Racing Dir Eric Boullier said, "Today's announcement shows that he's fully committed to racing and winning as a McLaren driver, and, while we've often shared his frustrations over the past few years, we now feel that we can deliver on our promise to give him a competitive car next season" (McLaren).
