Pirelli Will Paint Tires Pink For F1 U.S. GP To Promote Breast Cancer Awareness

Tire manufacturer Pirelli is set to turn its tires pink at the Formula 1 U.S. Grand Prix "to raise awareness for breast cancer," according to Ben Church of the London DAILY MAIL. The company will alter its ultrasoft tires from their "usual purple" color as part of an F1 initiative. The sport is planning a "host of gestures" in Austin this weekend to promote the Susan G. Komen breast cancer charity. The Italian tire company said that it is "fully behind the charity" and hopes it can "promote the message" over the weekend. In a statement, Pirelli said, "It's a symbol of solidarity and commitment, as well as a powerful reminder of the importance of the cause" (DAILY MAIL, 10/16). SKY SPORTS' James Galloway reported it will be the first time the ultrasoft will have been used at the Circuit of the Americas. The other two tire compounds in use in Austin, the supersoft and soft, will be painted in their "usual respective red and yellow" colors (SKY SPORTS, 10/16).
