Event Notes: Supercars Confirm Sydney Night Race In '18

Supercars will race under lights in '18 after a night race was "confirmed at Sydney Motorsport Park next August." The 16-event championship calendar was released on Wednesday with the night race and a new event at the A$110M ($86.5M) Tailem Bend circuit in South Australia the "main changes." The '18 calendar also "boasts a full championship round at the Australian Grand Prix for the first time." The night race at Sydney Motorsport Park will be a 300km race on Aug. 4 (AAP, 10/4).

England's first trial of the video assistant referee system will be held on Saturday at Wembley, the FA announced. The system will be used during the Wembley Cup charity match, which is reportedly "set to feature the likes of Steven Gerrard and Rio Ferdinand" (PA, 10/4).

The Japan Rugby Football Union confirmed Wednesday that the Brave Blossoms will play Tonga on Nov. 18 at Stade Ernest Wallon in Toulouse, France. The union also confirmed the game the following week against France "will now be played at the U Arena in Nanterre, on the outskirts of Paris" (KYODO, 10/3).
