Chelsea Names Nigerian Brewery Star Lager Its Official Beer Partner

Chelsea announced Nigerian brewery Star Lager as its official beer partner, according to GOAL. Coming "on the heels of similar partnerships with six other European clubs" -- Arsenal, Man City, Juventus, Real Madrid and Paris St. Germain in '16 and Barcelona in '17 -- this partnership will solidify the brand's "claims to football." The agreement has "several angles, but one of the most notable is the fact that every year a number of football fans across the country will get to watch live Chelsea" matches in London. Star Lager is "largely responsible for the growth of the Nigerian indigenous beer industry, as its success story has influenced the introduction of other successful brands" (GOAL, 9/29).
