Event Notes: Scottish Side Rangers Furious After Benfica Pulls Out Of Friendly In Canada

Scottish Premiership side Rangers "are angry" at the cancellation of their int'l break friendly match against Portuguese side Benfica in Canada. The club was "set to jet out on Tuesday to contest the Friday night Eusebio Cup contest." However, Benfica, which lost 5-0 to Swiss side Basel in the Champions League last week, "pulled out of the trip" (London DAILY MAIL, 9/30).

Morocco confirmed it is bidding to host the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) "after Kenya was stripped of hosting rights last weekend." The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) announced on its website that it wanted to stage the tournament to "embrace the youth of the continent and enable them to have a promising future." The tournament will take place from Jan. 12-Feb. 4 (BBC, 9/30).
