Finance Notes: Mike Ashley's Mash Holdings' Profits Fall To £277.8M

Pre-tax profits at Mash Holdings, Mike Ashley's personal investment vehicle, "nearly halved" to £270M ($361.9M) after a "tough year for Sports Direct and falling ticket sales" at Premier League side Newcastle United. Accounts lodged at Companies House show Mash Holdings' pre-tax profit fell from £520.9M to £277.78M in the year to April 26. This was on revenue that rose from about £2.9B to just over £3B during the period (LONDON TIMES, 9/27).

Seria A side AS Roma announced a loss of €42M ($49.4M) for the '16-17 budget, an increase from €14M last year. The results were "affected by the failure to participate in the group stage of the 2016-17 Champions League," causing a decrease in revenue "essentially due to the lower profitability of the UEFA Europa League." The net loss for the club's parent company, AS Roma SpA, is estimated at €36M ($42.3M), up from €10.4M this time last year (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 9/27).
