Welsh Rugby Union Announces Record Reinvestment Of $49.2M In National Game

The Welsh Rugby Union Group reinvested £36.6M ($49.2M) into the national game at all levels, which equates to an 11% increase for the second consecutive year. The WRU is continuing to reinvest into rugby, with investment in the community game increasing by 10% to £8.7M ($11.7M). Total investment in Welsh rugby is up by £3.5M ($4.7M) from £33.1M a year ago, which was a record investment. Allocations to the regions amount to £21M ($28.3M), up from £19.3M a year ago. This includes £1M into regional academies to accelerate the development of Welsh players in the professional game and the investment in national dual contract players, which is up by £300,000 ($403,600) to £2.4M ($3.2M). The WRU also assumed control of Pro14 side Dragons at a cost of approximately £5.5M (WRU).
