'Controversial' AOC Media Dir Mike Tancred To Leave Organization

The Australian Olympic Committee announced "controversial" Media Dir Mike Tancred will leave the organization, according to the ABC. The AOC also announced that the independent committee's latest investigation "into his conduct found that he did not breach by-laws." However, Tancred was "severely reprimanded" in May for his conduct toward former CEO Fiona de Jong, and a series of complaints against him -- "some of which were proven" -- sparked a review that criticized the culture within the AOC (ABC, 9/14). In London, Christopher Knaus reported new details of the independent committee's review into the most recent complaints made against Tancred suggested he was a "casualty of the crossfire" between camps in the AOC presidential election campaign earlier this year. Tancred's replacement will be "responsible for repairing the AOC's reputation, which was battered during a bitter election campaign" between President John Coates and his challenger, Danni Roche. The allegations against Tancred, "widely considered Coates' right-hand man, were a blow to the incumbent, and aided Roche, who campaigned on themes of change and cultural reform" (GUARDIAN, 9/13).
