League Notes: Irish Boxing Dispute Likely To End Up In High Court

The future of Ireland's most successful Olympic sport remains "mired in a deepening split which looks increasingly likely to end up in an expensive High Court case." More than 100 delegates from Irish boxing clubs on Sunday "defied a directive" from Irish Amateur Boxing Association CEO Fergal Carruth and attended an extraordinary general meeting in Parnells Gaelic Athletic Association Club in Dublin. They "overwhelmingly voted to adopt a rule book to govern the IABA which was prepared by a sub-committee of the Central Council of the IABA" (IRISH INDEPENDENT, 9/11).

Rugby player Mike Brown is the latest England int'l to publicly condemn Premiership Rugby's proposal to expand the season as "ridiculous," suggesting rugby union's current rate of attrition will "cause youngsters such as Harlequins' 18-year-old fly‑half Marcus Smith to burn out before they reach the age of 30." Premiership Rugby is "steadfastly sticking to its proposal" for the domestic campaign to run from September to June as of the '19-20 season (London GUARDIAN, 9/10).

Cricket Australia announced it became a signatory to Australian Marriage Equlity. CA CEO James Sutherland said, "Cricket must be a welcoming environment for each and every one of us, regardless of gender, cultural heritage and -- importantly in the current environment -- sexuality" (CA).

The Professional Squash Association and World Squash Federation signed a memorandum of understanding that will see the two bodies work in unison toward achieving a joint vision for the future of squash on a global scale. The partnership will focus on objectives including securing a place in the Olympics program (WSF).
