Football Notes: UEFA Denies Threatening To Boot Paris St. Germain

UEFA denied reports that President Aleksander Čeferin threatened to kick Paris St. Germain out of European competition. A number of news outlets claimed Čeferin told the European Club Association, "If I want to be as popular as Michel Platini I know I have to exclude PSG from the European Cups." Former UEFA President Platini implemented the Financial Fair Play laws that PSG has "since been accused of flouting" (Scotland DAILY RECORD, 9/11).

La Liga side Espanyol CEO Ramon Robert said that he cannot imagine La Liga without his club. When asked about the hypothetical independence of Catalonia, he said that Barcelona "will play where Espanyol and Girona play" (EFE, 9/11).

Scottish FA CEO Stewart Regan said that "only one club has indicated" that it wants a review of Scottish football's handling of Rangers' EBT use. Regan said that the organization wrote to its 108 members "explaining why they rejected" the Scottish Professional Football League's review proposal. He said, "Apart from one [club] I haven't had a single phone call, email or letter on this subject. The Scottish FA board considered the request from the SPFL and also from Celtic" (BBC, 9/11).

Valencia-based La Liga clubs Valencia and Levante agreed to a €15 ($17.95) "ticket pricing cap for away fans during the side's derbies this season." The joint incentive will come into play on Saturday when Valencia plays away at Levante (FOOTBALL ESPANA, 9/11).

The Gambia Football Federation said that it is "considering its position within the West African Football Union." The comments come after "refereeing controversies at the last two regional tournaments." The GFF submitted complaints to the regional body and the Confederation of African Football over a penalty awarded at the ongoing WAFU Cup of Nations (BBC, 9/11).

The French Football Federation and the French Professional Football League (LFP) along with the French amateur league and players' union have raised more than €500,000 ($598,225). The funds will aid the reconstruction of French islands Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy in the Caribbean, which were devastated after Hurricane Irma (FFF).
