Media Notes: Saul Alvarez Vs. Gennady Golovkin To Cost U.K. Fans £16.95

The boxing match between Saul Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin on Sept. 16 will cost U.K. fans £16.95 ($21.92) to watch. BoxNation has exclusive rights to broadcast the fight live in the U.K. and Ireland, and will show it on its Box Office channel. Paying subscribers will be able to watch "without extra charge while one-off customers will have to fork out" £16.95 (London DAILY MAIL, 9/4).

Fox Sports Mexico and WWE announced the launch of a weekly Spanish-language show, WWE Saturday Night, which began on Saturday on Fox Sports 2. Distributed throughout Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, WWE Saturday Night features highlights from WWE programs Raw and SmackDown, as well as live events (WWE). 

Altice’s SFR is "continuing its OTT distribution strategy" for its sports channels and launched SFR Sport 4K live UHD on Samsung smart TVs. SFR Sport is an OTT service available on mobile, tablet and PC, as well as on Android TV. With the new partnership with Samsung, SFR Sport "will directly be available on its smart TVs" (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 9/4).

The legal battle between Mediaset and Vivendi is "entering a new phase" with the Italian private broadcaster claiming €3B ($3.6B) in damages. RTI, and holding company Fininvest, are suing the French company "for the termination of the Premium agreement" in April '16, for a figure that is double the amount claimed earlier this year. Vivendi has since built up a 28.8% stake in Mediaset "in a move that led communications regulator Agcom to order the French company to reduce its stake in the broadcaster or in Telecom Italia" by April '18 (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 9/4).

Greece’s Cosmote TV renewed its broadcasting rights for the MotoGP World Championship from '18-20. Viewers will be able to watch all races, qualifying and free practice sessions of MotoGP, as well as Moto2 and Moto3 races live, exclusively and in HD on Cosmote Sport channels (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 8/31).

Internet TV platform Magine TV added pay-TV channels Sport1 US HD and Motorvision TV to "its German line-up." The channels are part of the Premium package which now contains 79 free-to-air and pay-TV channels, more than 30 of them in HD for €20 ($23.81) per month (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 9/1).

Sunday's France-Luxembourg 2018 World Cup qualifying match, which ended in a draw, was watched by an average of 8 million viewers on TF1. The number translated to a 31.9% market share. The game drew a peak audience of 9.1 million viewers (L’ÉQUIPE, 9/4).
