Four Spanish Basketball Clubs Meet To Discuss Starting Their Own League

Representatives of Spanish Basketball League (ACB) clubs Barcelona, Real Madrid, Baskonia and Unicaja -- four of the five Spanish teams with a place in the next season of the EuroLeague -- met on Wednesday, according to José Ignacio Huguet of MUNDO DEPORTIVO. The purpose of the meeting "was to explore a possible exit from the ACB and the creation of a league that would compete with the current ACB." Spain's fifth entrant in the EuroLeague, Valencia, did not participate. The teams at the meeting "considered the possibility of a new Spanish league, which would come into effect in '18-19." To do so, the four clubs created a working group to "explore the different paths to achieve this and the possible alliances that make would make such a competition possible" (MUNDO DEPORTIVO, 8/30).
