Spanish Superior Sports Council President Calls For Villar's Resignation

Spanish Superior Sports Council (CSD) President José Ramón Lete met with the heads of the Spanish Football Federation's (RFEF) 19 territories on Tuesday, "but did not reach an agreement on a replacement" for current President Ángel María Villar, according to Joaquín Maroto of AS. Lete said, "There was unanimity and an absolute consensus that the best solution is for Villar to resign. The resignation of Villar will open up a mechanism for his replacement that is established in the statutes that would allow for an election to be called." Villar, however, is "entrenched at his home and is not throwing in the towel." Villar was arrested as part of a corruption investigation in July (AS, 8/29).
