Event Notes: Manny Pacquiao Complicating Plans For Rematch With Jeff Horn

Jeff Horn's world title boxing rematch with Manny Pacquiao is "in danger of collapse" after Pacquiao missed a deadline to commit to the fight. Duco Promotions exec Dean Lonergan and Top Rank CEO Bob Arum issued a joint statement on Monday in which they confirmed they "may be forced to find an alternative opponent for Horn to meet later this year as mystery surrounds Pacquiao’s commitment to the rematch" (THE AUSTRALIAN, 8/28).

The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association demanded Rs 1.5 crore ($225,000) from the BCCI for security and other expenses, "including the conduct of a warm-up game for the Australia team." TNCA exec R.I. Palani wrote to the BCCI "explaining the huge costs that the association has to incur." The Australian team is scheduled to arrive on Sept. 8, and is slated to play five ODIs and three T20 internationals (PTI, 8/29).

The Argentine Rugby Federation, which is "suffering from financial difficulties and a lack of infrastructure," is reportedly unable to organize the U20 Rugby World Cup, scheduled for June '18. After being contacted by World Rugby, France accepted the hosting duties to replace Argentina. An official announcement is expected at the end of September (L'ÉQUIPE, 8/29).
